Chasing Dreams

As my time in the midwest is winding down the reality of leaving the country is finally starting to hit me. This past April I accepted a teaching job with WorldTeach. This program sends people all over the world to teach English in schools. With this program you sign a one year contract to teach at the school. After submitting my application and hearing numerous comments about how crazy I am, I was accepted into the program. I was thrilled to tell everyone about it. I was so excited to know that for the next year I would be living on an island and taking on all kinds of new adventures. With all of this excitement came a lot of fear. I have never gone on a trip where I have no idea who anyone is. I have never been away from my family for this long of time.

The more I think about this opportunity the more I know that I made the right decision. I am the kind of girl who likes to live in the moment. I hate planning out my future because it never goes as planned anyway. I also seem to have more fun when no plans are made and I just fly by the seed of my pants. I also crave adventure and trying new things. What better way to do that then spend a year on an island trying all sorts of new things and meeting all kinds of new people.

As much as I would love to tell you all the details of my trip I really don't know that much. What I do know is that I will be leaving on August 7th and going to LAX. I will be spending the night in LA and heading for Hawaii and finally the Samoa on the next day. I will be living in a school for my first three weeks on the island. This is when we have orientation and learn about the island. After the three weeks we get placed with our host family that we will be living with for the year. After the first three weeks I will be moving to an outer island. The island that I am living on is called Aunu'u. I will be teaching eighth grade all subjects. And thats about all I know at this point! I am going into this blind but I'm sure it will all work out for me!

I would like to make a quick shoutout to all the people that have been with me through this whole process of getting ready to leave for the island. I know that I have had a lot on my mind and appreciate all the support you guys have gave me. Thanks to everyone who also donated supplies for my future classroom you guys are seriously awesome. I am pretty sure I have more supplies then the Walmart back to school section. I also ask that whenever you see my mom give her a BIG hug because I know that she is going to need it! :)

With all that being said I am going to try and keep my blog as up to date as possible. It will not be a daily blog like the one that I did in Haiti! I am not sure how often I will have internet either. With my past traveling experiences I have learned that internet can sometimes be hard to come by. Rumor has it though that they have a McDonalds somewhere on the island where you can get internet!

With Love,
Abby :)
