It’s finally Friday and we have survived yet another week of
teaching. Getting up this morning we thought it was going to be a big day at school.
The governor was coming and we were having an assembly for the opening of our
new building. We got to school and saw that the students were not wearing
uniforms and the teachers were not in their pulatasi. Well somewhere along the
line they had forgot to tell the World Teachers so we were dressed for the
formal event. Oh well it meant that our day was not going to be nearly as busy.
After the last bell rang we were told that we could leave
the school right away since it was a Friday. On our packed van ride home we had
about 25 teachers and students in our little school van. The van had quite the
smell to it when you pack that many people in a van on a ninety-five degree
day. Dana, Virginia, and I were discussing what we wanted to do afterschool. We
were talking about treating ourselves since we all ran out of chocolate. Trust
me we love our chocolate out here. So we were making plans to catch the next
boat and get some treats since we survived our first month and it was a Friday.
We were getting out of the van and we were not even paying
attention and in front our house sat three bicycles. We are not real sure who
brought the bikes to our house but it literally made me so happy. The fact that
someone in the village went through the effort to get us bikes made us so
happy. I looked at the girls and said my heart is happy because they care about
us so much and make us feel so welcome on this little island. Virginia looks at
me and goes I just can’t stop smiling. We spent most of the night riding on the bikes and enjoying the fact that we could get around the island about twice as fast as normal which is really nice.
With Love,
Abby
