Weekend Fun

First of all I have been super busy these last couple days so sorry for the lack of blogs. This weekend we decided that we wanted to watch the sunrise. There is a really pretty area in the mountains where you can see the sunrise perfectly. We had set our alarms for five so that we could hike and be able to see the sunrise. The hike to this pretty location has one problem Oreo. Sounds like a sweet and innocent name but it’s the name of the local dog that is not so nice. This dog is known around the island for being really mean and will bite if the dog is mad enough. We knew we had to pass his home on our hike. We had our rocks in hand and quickly passed by Oreo’s without disturbing the dog. By the time we reached the opening the sun was already raised. It was still a breath taking view and we have full intentions of going back a couple of times and waking up a little bit earlier.

After we had returned from our hike we decided that we wanted to go to the main island for the day. We waited until the afternoon and took the boat across the channel and went to the beach. The beaches are always empty here. I never see people at the beach. We had the whole beach to ourselves. We lay on the beach read our books and listened to music all afternoon. We were also relieved that the sun was not shining it was almost cooler. It is almost relieving when the sun isn’t shining because it gets so hot. We spent the afternoon just relaxing and taking in the beauty of this island.

When we got home for the night we decided to make homemade pizza. Virginia’s mom sent a package with all the supplies to create a homemade pizza. Since I was the only one who knew how to make homemade pizza I decided to make the pizza. The pizza was so good and went spent the rest of the night watching the movie “The Fighter.”

We went to church on Sunday morning and got invited to a potluck that the church has the first Sunday of each month. We had the potluck in a little hall that faced the ocean. Potlucks here are very different than what we are used to. The parents sit at the tables and wait for the kid’s to serve them. The kids put all the food on the plates for the parents. They serve you and clean up all the dishes for you. It was very interesting I felt bad because I felt like I should be doing something to help them but they would not let us help them. They also have a lot of food at these meals. They give each person a tray of food. The tray contained 3 different servings of fish, chicken, 3 crabs, pumpkin and pigs feet, salad, and cake. It was so good but we were so full after eating this meal. I felt so bad for not eating all of my food but they told me this was normal.

With Love,

Abby
